Violet Ruth Mounce, 84, daughter of Joel Granville Shelton and Mary Wilma Halbrook Shelton, was born Aug. 31, 1922, in Shannon County. She died July 24, 2007, at Cass County Medical Center at Harrisonville after a lengthy illness.
She married Jim Pyatt, and they had three children, Charles Jim, Tom David and Fern Ellen.
She married Lawrence Thomas Mounce July 31, 1957. They were married 35 years before his death in 1993. They had three sons, Lawrence Junior, Rick Lynn and Carl Lee.
Mrs. Mounce was a sewing machine operator at Angelica Uniform Factory in Summersville for several years. She enjoyed sewing, gardening and canning. She loved the holidays with the family gatherings.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and one son, Charles Jim Pyatt.
Surviving are her children, Tom Pyatt of Salem, Fern Bowen of St. James, Junior Mounce and Rick Mounce of Summersville and Carl Mounce of Pleasant Hill; one brother, John Shelton of Summersville; one sister, Opal Macois of Crestwood; 16 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
Services were July 28 at the Bradford Funeral Home Chapel in Summersville with the Rev. John Atchison officiating. Burial was in the Cedar Grove Cemetery at Salem.
