The Houston eighth grade volleyball team started its season strong by rallying to win its first two matches of the season last week.
The Lady Tigers came back from an early deficit to defeat Mountain View-Liberty 19-25, 25-21, 25-21 Sept. 10. The following night, Houston downed Willow Springs 15-25, 25-9, 25-23. The winning streak came to an end Thursday when the Lady Tigers were defeated 25-12, 25-9 by Summersville.
After losing its season opener 25-20, 25-15 to Mountain-View Liberty, the seventh grade rebounded for a 25-13, 25-16 victory against Willow Springs. Houston took the first set from Summersville before losing 16-25, 25-11, 17-15 Thursday.
Kenzie Scheets had a team-high nine kills, and Amber Sillyman had 10 assists against Summersville.
“The girls put up a good fight, especially since they were playing a mixed 7th and 8th grade team,” coach Jodie Tottingham said.
Catlin Spencer had 13 points and six aces in the eighth grade’s season-opening victory against Mountain View. Lauren Hoover had nine kills, and Haylee Kell added 10 assists.
Kell had 15 assists and six aces the following night against Willow Springs. Mackenzie Scott led Houston with 19 kills.
