A committee of the Houston Area Chamber of Commerce is seeking the membership’s opinion on construction of new quarters from the organization’s headquarters.
The building would be situated at the entity’s fairgrounds on North U.S. 63. The committee was charged with developing a design and the cost of the building.
The chamber said it began studying the issue of ownership versus renting when the Community Betterment and Arts Council proposed a rent increase at the chamber’s current location on South Sam Houston Blvd.
The chamber committee agreed on a bid for a building from John Yerby and John Jordan. Five contractors submitted proposals.
In a letter to members, the committee writes, “We are at the point now that we need to know from the membership if this is something you will be in favor of and support. We will need the support of the membership to make this happen.”
Members of the committee are Steve Drake, Gayla Bratton, Ed Hamilton, Shari McCallister, Dennis Bartlett and Kay Jordan.
