The Houston JV volleyball team improved to 3-0 Tuesday night by breezing past Summersville 25-10, 25-9.
Tory Burgess had seven kills and Sarah Pierce added six for the Lady Tigers, who opened the season with victories against Licking and Cuba.
“It’s always important for the JV to come out and look sharp to set the tone for the rest of the night,” Houston coach Amy McNew said.
Samantha Jones and Kelsi Adey had three kills apiece against Summersville. Kaitlyn Kell and Minaya Maddox added two each. Burgess had 10 assists and seven digs.
In the season opener against Licking, Burgess and Lainey Casper had five kills each as Houston won the first and third sets in a tight match.
Pierce had 12 assists and Burgess added eight for the Lady Tigers. Pierce had four aces.
“We had extra amounts of adrenaline the first match and played a little rusty,” McNew said. “But the girls hung in there and finished hard.”
Thursday against Cuba, Jennifer Belew had a team-best seven digs as Houston cruised to a straight sets victory. Casper added six digs.
“The girls really appreciate all the community support,” McNew said. “It really makes a diference in having the home team advantage.”
