A chip and seal operation began today on Highway 17.
Missouri Department of Transportation crews will be on the roadway through Friday. Work will occur on Highway 17 from its intersection with U.S. 63 to Highway 38, approximately 7.5 miles. Tentative work hours are scheduled for 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. The City of Houston had earlier requested that the process not be done in the city limits.
Motorists should plan ahead and allow extra time due to a one-lane restriction and reduced speed of 35 miles per hour. Message boards will be placed at either end of the project. Work zone signs, flag persons and a pilot vehicle will be used during this operation. MoDOT urges motorists to proceed slowly through the work zone, especially while driving on the fresh-laid surface.
