Household Waste Cleanup in Houston Begins Today

The South Central Solid Waste Management District in cooperation with two local organizations will hold a household waste cleanup on Oct. 17-20 in Houston.

The event is at Opportunity Sheltered Industries in the Houston Industrial Park at 1085 Opportunity Circle. Houston Wal-Mart and Opportunity Sheltered Industries are sponsoring the day.

An attendant will be on-site to help people unload items and to monitor the collection site from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday and 8:30 a.m. until 1 p.m. Saturday. Will-Co Disposal will provide Dumpsters for the disposal of old furniture, junk plastics and bulk items. A trailer will be used to load TV sets, microwaves, old computers, cell phones and electronics.

Tires should be passenger sizes 20 inches or less and off the rim. No more than 1,000 for the collection will be accepted, and none from businesses.

S & S Recycling will have roll-offs on site for recycling of metal items, such old appliances and scrap metal.

No roofing shingles, brush, construction or business waste will be accepted.

Items such as paint, batteries and oil and pesticides won’t be collected in Houston, but rather at a special collection 9 a.m. until noon, Oct. 20, at a Mountain Grove city shed off Highway 95.
