Public Water Supply District No. 2, which serves areas east and north of Houston, will seek federal funds to make improvements and will likely ask patrons next year to approve a $765,000 bond issue.

The district is seeking a low-interest loan from USDA’s Rural Development that would allow it to address several issues, including undersized mains, an inadequate transmission main between storage standpipes, some dead-end lines and development of a backup electrical generation system during power outages. Water pressure and supply capacity also will be addressed, officials said.

The board plans to do the work in phases and obtain as much government aid as possible. If the bond issue passes, the district will be able to obtain low-interest money from Rural Development rather than more expensive lease-financing options.

Persons with questions can call the district at 417-967-4250 or attend a board meeting, which is the first Thursday of each month at 6 p.m.
