A deer hunter went missing Monday night in northern Texas County, sparking a manhunt that ended the following morning when the man walked out of the woods unharmed.
Lt. Melissa Dunn of the Texas County Sheriff’s Office said the man, who is from Arnold, became lost in the Mark Twain Forest north of Evening Shade while deer hunting.
Members of the sheriff’s office, Conservation Department and Roby Fire Department began searching for the man shortly after dark Monday when he was reported missing. The hunt ended at 1:30 a.m. Tuesday and resumed at daylight. The Houston fire department joined the effort Tuesday morning.
Dunn said the man, who sought shelter overnight when he realized he was lost, walked out of the woods about four miles from where he entered.
