Houston senior linebacker Kirk Pierce and wide receiver Ty Scheets were each selected to the All-SCA football first team Tuesday night.
Sophomore Brad Pounds was a second team pick at defensive end. Quarterback David Weybright received honorable mention honors.
Pierce was an unanimous selection after leading the Tigers with 116 tackles through nine games, including a whopping 12 for losses. He also had one sack and a fumble recovery. Stats were unavilable for the final game against Cabool.
Scheets was the go-to player for the Houston offense as Weybright’s top target. He hauled in 55 catches for 716 yards and a team-best seven touchdowns.
Pounds, who moved from the secondary to defensive line midseason, had 54 tackles and two sacks. He forced four fumbles and had six tackles for losses.
Weybright, also an honorable mention selection last year, threw for 1,350 yards and 11 touchdowns. He completed 146 of his 287 pass attempts.
Ava quarterback Jonathan Batchellor was selected “back of the year” by the SCA coaches. Cabool’s Doug Walls was the “lineman of the year,” and Bulldogs coach Vince McCrosky was “coach of the year.”
