Treva Charlene Quinton, 78, daughter of Charles Lora and Lucy Hicks Overfelt, was born Jan. 1, 1929, on a farm at Plato. She died Nov. 6, 2007, at the Kabul Nursing Home at Cabool.

She lived in Texas County until her family moved to Dewey, Okla., where she graduated from high school in 1948.

As a young mother, she was a bonded mail clerk at Bartlesville, Okla., for Phillips Petroleum Co. for five years. She moved to Cabool due to her father’s failing health.

She worked for Cabool State Bank for a short time before becoming a dairy farmer for 10 years. She was a CNA, housekeeper and medical technician at the Kabul Nursing Home. Due to failing health, she retired in 1984 and took care of her mother.

Mrs. Quinton accepted Jesus Christ as personal Lord and savior as a young woman and was baptized by the late J.C. Hicks of Plato. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Cabool for 45 years, where she taught Sunday School, Vacation Bible School and worked in the nursery for several years.

She loved fishing, gardening, fixing family meals and exploring new places.

Surviving are her three children, Martha Jean Crabtree of Tyrone and Ellen Marie Letterman and Ralph Eugene Quinton of Neosho; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Services were Nov. 9 at the First Baptist Church in Cabool with the Rev. Bill Chambers officiating. Burial was in the Jarrett Cemetery near Cabool under the direction of Elliott-Gentry-Carder Funeral Home of Cabool.
