The new year will bring of lots of political activity in Texas County, including a presidential preference primary on Feb. 5. The election caps off the first of several in 2008.
County Clerk Don Troutman, whose office will administer the White House primary, a municipal election in April, a primary in August and a general election in November, this week published information about the August primary. Filings begin Feb. 26 and close March 25.
Political parties will select their nominees during the August election. With the exception of one office – auditor – voters in Missouri will pick candidates for every statewide office. They include governor, lieutenant governor, secretary of state, state treasurer and attorney general. Voters in the county will help elect a representative to Congress in Missouri’s 8th District, a state representative in the 144th and 147th Districts and a state senator.
Nominees also will be chosen on the county level for commissioner, District 1 and 2, sheriff, assessor, collector-treasurer, public administrator, coroner and surveyor.
Absentee balloting: Absentee voting for the presidential election began Wednesday. The deadline to register to vote or make changes to individual information is Jan. 9.
