Dr. Dan Vandiver, assistant superintendent at Hollister, has verbally accepted the position of Houston superintendent. The move is not yet official.

Vandiver, a 1981 Houston graduate, has been in administration for nine years. He became assistant superintendent in 2006. He was high school principal there beginning in 2003 before taking his current job. He is a former high school principal at Twin Rivers and an assistant high school principal at Mountain Grove and Holden. He previously taught social studies and journalism.

Vandiver and Nathan Holder, superintendent at Raymondville, were formally introduced to the community Wednesday night during a public forum at the elementary gymnasium. Each took 15 minutes addressing the crowd before a short question-and-answer session.

A third finalist, Dr. Fred Czerwonka of West Plains, formally withdrew his name Wednesday morning after receiving a promotion to assistant superintendent.
