Edwin Robert Greear, 81, son of Robert Lee Greear and Susan Rosine Hoskinson Greear, was born June 6, 1926, in Adams County, Iowa. He died Jan. 13, 2008, at St. John’s Hospital in Springfield.

He served in the U.S. Army infantry Oct. 10, 1944, through Dec. 29, 1946.

He married Thela Margaree Brawley Nov. 8, 1947, at Eminence. They had seven children.

He worked in and around Summersville in the timber industry for several employers, retiring in 1989 as a log cutter for his son-in-law, Ronald Tuttle.

Mr. Greear was baptized in 1956 at Alley Spring and was a member of the First Baptist Church in Summersville.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Orval “Jack”, Vernon, Elza and Ralph; sisters, Bernice, Ethel and Viola “Billie”; and a granddaughter.

Surviving are his wife of 60 years of Summersville; his children, Susan Womack of Houston, Marjorie Smith of Yukon, Leota Killough of Plumerville, Ark., Larry Greear and Cathy Tuttle of Summersville, David Greear of Colonial Beach, Va., and Sharlene of Eminence; one sister, Lena Mullins of Bloomsdale; 17 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

Services were Jan. 16 at the Bradford Funeral Home Chapel in Summersville with the Rev. Oscar Cunningham officiating. Burial with full military rites was in the Flat Rock Cemetery.
