Patrons of the Houston School District will have a large field of candidates to choose from when elections are held in April. Before the filing deadline closed Tuesday, eight persons were seeking three positions.

Joining incumbent Dr. Tom Dunn are Garry Jensen, Jo Holland, Kevin Reed, Darrell Scheets, Scott Barton, Chris Smith and Brian Durham. Incumbents Jim Cavanaugh and Sharon Hart did not seek re-election.

Voters will decide several school, city, water district and TCMH board races.

Here is a rundown of the filings:

TCMH board: Incumbent Mark Forbes of Houston and Gregory Bennett of Cabool. Mattie Woods of Cabool withdrew Jan. 18.

Raymondville board of education: Robert Ellsworth has filed, as have incumbents Don Schweighauser, James Richards and Joe Ceplina.

Success School: Robert Bates, Carl Shelton and Michael W. Minter filed, as well as incumbent Patricia Campbell Akers. Bates and Shelton were earlier appointees to the board. In all, five slots are available.

Plato Schools: Incumbents Doug Caldwell and Lori Crabtree have filed, as well as Shellene Beacham and Pete Scurlock.

Village of Plato: Incumbents Bobby Biram and Hal Dandridge filed.

Village of Raymondville: Gene DeWitt and Don Barton Jr. refiled.

City of Houston: Incumbents Joe Honeycutt, Ward I; Joyce Campbell, Ward II; and Don Romines, Ward III.

TCMH: Incumbent Mark Forbes of Houston and Gregory Bennett of Cabool.
