The South Central Solid Waste Management District will hold free hazardous material collections at four Texas County locations over the next several months.
Paint, used motor oil and antifreeze, as well as rechargeable, vehicle and button batteries also will be taken. Pesticides and herbicides also are on the collection list.
Old computers, TVs and microwaves will be taken from households. No containers larger than five gallons will be accepted.
All collections occur from 9 a.m. until noon. Here are the sites:
*March 15 at Roby Lions Club Den.
*April 5 at the Houston Rural Fire Association parking lot.
*May 10 at Summersville’s square.
*May 31 in downtown Cabool by the city park and Subway.
The district says it received about $350,000 in 2007 that allowed it to perform a variety of projects on behalf of the seven counties in its region. They included waste collections, pick up of electronics from businesses and schools, scrap tire collections and cleanup of several illegal dump sites. Houston received a pickup, allowing it to do curbside recycling.
