Filings for offices open Tuesday for numerous positions set to be decided in 2008, which promises lots of political activity.
In addition to an April election, there is a primary in August and a general election in November. Filings close March 25.
Political parties will select their nominees during the August election. With the exception of one office – auditor – voters in Missouri will pick candidates for every statewide office. They include governor, lieutenant governor, secretary of state, state treasurer and attorney general. Voters in the county will help elect a representative to Congress in Missouri’s 8th District, a state representative in the 144th and 147th Districts and a state senator.
Nominees also will be chosen on the county level for commissioner, district 1 and 2, sheriff, assessor, collector-treasurer, public administrator, coroner and surveyor.
