A new business opened Friday in downtown Houston.
Enchanted Cottage Quilts opened in s 4,400 square foot building on Steffens Street in Houston. Michele Zoeteway of Houston and Sue Clark of Plato own the business.
The store specializes in meeting the needs of area quilters. On Friday, Zoeteway, who has an extensive retail background in the field, gave a tour of the building, which also includes classroom space for groups.
Quality needles and thread will be stocked, as well as affordable fabrics, Zoeteway said. Books and patterns also will be stocked.
“It’s a passion,” said Zoeteway, who moved to the area in 2003 from the Denver area. Both women have been active in the Piney Quilt Guild, which every other year sponsors one of the largest shows in the area.
At the business, two long-arm quilting machines are available for projects. Service work and eventually scissor sharpening are planned.
Customers in the store, which is open Monday through Saturday, can see a display of quilts, as well as historic quilting memorabilia.
