Vernon Hershel Patton, 76, son of James Alfred and Mary Ina Sykes Patton, was born Aug. 29, 1931, at Ink. He died Jan. 27, 2008, at his home at Warrenton.
He married Shirley Banks June 28, 1955, at Salem. They had two children and celebrated 52 years of marriage.
Mr. Patton was a retired custodian for the Binkley Co. in Warrenton, where he worked for more than 15 years. He was a bagger for the Kroger Store at Warrenton for more than eight years.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Pamela Engelage-North; and two brothers, Larry and Jack Patton.
Surviving are his wife of Warrenton; one son, James Rick Patton of Warrenton; one brother, Louis Patton of Summersville; four sisters, Dorothy Winkleman of Granite City, Ill., Wanda Shoults of Summersville, Jean Tiesel of Monett and Patty Croy of Versailles; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Services were Jan. 31 at the Bradford Funeral Home Chapel at Summersville with the Rev. Tommy Boyd officiating. Burial with military rites was in the Bethel Cemetery.
