Filings at the Texas County Courthouse during the last week set the stage for races in August and November.
Sharon Rees of Houston added her name to the Republican nomination for Texas County associate commissioner District I. John Casey of Simmons filed earlier. No Democrat has filed.
Seeking the Democratic nomination for associate commissioner District II is Linda S. Miller of Licking. Incumbent Linda Garrett, a Republican, filed earlier.
Steven H. Lawhead of Licking filed paperwork for the Republican nomination for sheriff. Matt Thompson of Cabool will oppose him. Texas County Sheriff Carl Watson, a Democrat, filed for re-election last week.
Shalena Purcell and Terry Kell, both Raymondville Democrats, filed for county assessor. Seeking the Republican nomination is the incumbent, Debbie James of Solo and Lynn Cheek of Houston.
Also seeking re-election are Public Administrator Theresa Campbell, Coroner Thomas Whittaker and Treasurer-Collector Tammy Cantrell. All are Democrats.
In Jefferson City, both representatives for Texas County filed last week. They are Rep. Don Wells, R-Cabool; and Sen. Chuck Purgason, R-Caulfield. In the 8th Congressional District, Joe Allen, a Wright County native who is a lawyer at Forsyth, filed. The incumbent is Jo Ann Emerson.
Statewide, voters will elect a governor, lieutenant governor, secretary of state, state treasurer and attorney general.
The deadline for filing is March 25.
