Scroggins Named Chamber's Executive Director

The Houston Area Chamber of Commerce is handing over its reins to Kim Scroggins.

Scroggins, who has lived in Houston for 12 years and owned property in the county for about 24 years, was named the chamber’s new executive director at last night’s monthly board of directors meeting. She accepted the offer this morning.

Scroggins replaces former director Brenda Senter, who resigned in December after nearly five years with the chamber. Scroggins will begin her new post Monday.

“She’s very self-confident and a go-getter,” said Scott Roberts, chamber president. “She spoke very fluently to a group and is very articulate.”

Scroggins was one of three finalists interviewed Tuesday by the chamber search committee. The others were Emily Higgins of Springfield and Salem’s Sharon McNew. Each was asked a series of 12 questions related to the job, Roberts said.

The top two candidates were discussed at Thursday’s board meeting.

“All three were very highly qualified,” Roberts said. “It was a tough decision.”

Scroggins, who is originally from Alton, Ill., moved to Houston 24 years ago with her husband, Ted, a retired police officer. She has worked for United Country-Bartlett Real Estate, First National Bank and the Texas County Soil and Water Conservation District.
