Jonathan Page and William Jones won their respective singles matches as the Houston tennis team opened the 2008 season Monday with a 6-3 loss at Salem.

Ashton Kell and Jones secured the Tigers’ other victory with an 8-2 doubles win.

Page, the team’s No. 1 singles player, defeated Lute Heithold 8-6. He lost to Heithold twice last season.

Jones cruised to an 8-1 victory in his singles match.

The JV was defeated 5-0.

“There were a lot of positives to come from this loss,” Houston coach John Jordan said. ” I know some kids were disappointed with the way they played, and with experience they will begin to play as they practice.”
