Junior Holly Thomas was one of five Houston basketball players to be named to the All-SCA team. Thomas was a first-team selection.

Senior Michael Buckner and junior Kendra Welch were both second-team picks. Senior Jonathan Page and sophomore Danielle Pounds were named honorable mention.

Thomas averaged a double-double, scoring 13.7 points per game and grabbing 11.3 rebounds. She shot 49 percent and averaged 2.1 blocks.

Welch averaged 10.1 points, 3.2 assists, 2.1 steals and made 47 3-pointers as the Lady Tigers’ starting point guard.

Thomas and Welch were unanimous picks to the first and second teams.

“They were both dominant players at times this season,” Houston coach Brent Kell said. “They’ll need to be leaders next year – in the offseason and during the season.”

Buckner, the team leader in most statistical categories, averaged about 15 points, three steals and three assists per game.

“He was a good leader on the floor and tried to help the young kids, especially at the end of the year when he got hurt,” Tigers coach Wayne Jessen said.

Page averaged nine points and six rebounds per game.

Pounds averaged 5.2 points and 1.6 steals. She made 22 3-pointers on 32-percent shootintg from long range.
