BREAKING: Firemen scramble to put out fires

Firemen scrambled Thursday morning as blazes were reported at three different structures in Houston.

The first report came from 300 Ozark Ave., where lightning reportedly hit a home. The second came at 220 Pine Ave., and the third was at New Concepts Hair Salon, across from the high school parking lot.

The Houston rural fire department was called to assist the third blaze.

Earlier in the morning, the Texas County Rescue Squad used a boat to aid passengers in a SUV that was in rising water on the Big Piney River near the Tony Hogan Access.

The area was pounded with rainfall overnight, and it continues this morning. Herald weather watcher Jim Roth reported just over 2 inches of precipitation at his home just south of Houston.
