Lavada Ellen Stagner, 88, daughter of Franklin and Alice Barton Sawyer, was born March 16, 1920, at Raymondville. She died April 20, 2008, at Texas County Memorial Hospital in Houston.
She married Joseph Roy Stagner. They had four children.
Mrs. Stagner enjoyed fishing and rock hunting, looking for fossils. One of her pastimes was playing music. She played the guitar and loved country music and gospel hymns.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one son, David Stagner; one brother, Bud Sawyer; and one sister, Elvelyn Sawyer.
Surviving are one son, Danny Stagner of Yukon; two daughters, Shirley Lewis of Licking and Katherine Kelso of Bucyrus; two brothers, Johnny Sawyer of Jefferson City and Samuel Sawyer of Raymondville; four sisters, Cleta Wells of Belle, Nettie Conley and Kathleen Sawyer of Houston and Sylvia Goucher of Kansas City; nine grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.
Services are 2 o’clock today (Thursday) at the Evans Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Arvel Schweighauser officiating. Burial is in the Mahan Cemetery.
