An inventory of a safe that was swiped from a Houston business shows about $1,185 in cash and checks missing, Houston police said.

The safe, which was spotted in water by a mushroom hunter near Dora, was recently recovered in the North Fork River in Ozark County. Officers with the Missouri Water Patrol and Houston Police Department lugged the safe off the banks of the river near Hammonds Camp.

Burglars cut a hole in the safe after it was rolled out a front door to an area near the First Christian Church about 100-150 yards away. City employees working in the area found a dolly used in the heist on April 14.

Access to the business was gained by breaking glass in the door, which will cost about $173 to repair.

Houston police said 72 Case knives worth an estimated $2,161 and 84 Carhartt clothing items totaling $2,047 were also taken in the burglary.

Houston officers are continuing their investigation.
