VOLLEY WILLIS

Volley Walter Willis, 81, son of George and Grace Williams Willis, was born Dec. 11, 1926, at Ellington. He died March 31, 2008, at Christian Heath Care North at Lebanon.

Mr. Willis enlisted in the Army Jan. 24, 1945, serving in World War II. He was honorably discharged Nov. 23, 1946.

He married Ruth Miller Aug. 3, 1950, at Plato. They had three children.

Mr. Willis was a Civil Service worker at Fort Leonard Wood, driving a truck and transporting military troops on post. After retiring in 1976, he drove a bus for 20 years for the Plato Schools.

He enjoyed driving his wife to yard sales, swimming with his family at the river and having coffee with Little Debbie snack cakes.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife; brother, Louis Willis; three sisters, Shirley Willis, Lois Wofford and Hazel Jones; and a granddaughter.

Surviving are his son, Jr. Willis of Waynesville; two daughters, Dianna Sternberg of Lynchburg and Deborah Willis of Lebanon; one brother, Harrison Eugene Willis of Illinois; six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Services were April 2 at the Evans Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Phillip McGuire and Shannon Lewis officiating Burial with military honors was in the Lynchburg Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the Lynchburg Cemetery Association.
