Darlene M. Garrett, 74, daughter of Nels and Emma Rausch Nelson, was born Feb. 6, 1934, at Chicago, Ill. She died May 10, 2008, at Texas County Memorial Hospital in Houston.
She grew up in the Chicago area and graduated from Alburn High School. She went to the Chicago Art Institute from 1949-’51.
She married Peter L. Dow, an interior decorator, in 1952 in Chicago. They had five children. Mr. Dow died in 1971.
She married Arthur Rogers Nov. 19, 1978. He preceded her in death Jan. 26, 2004. They operated Countryside Caf/ at Plato.
As a young woman, she was a nurses aide. She loved horses and was involved in dressage riding. She was a member of the Moose Heart Lodge. Mrs. Garrett was artistically talented and loved to cook, dance and be with friends and family.
In addition to her husbands, she was preceded in death by her parents; one daughter, Geralynn Dow in 1987; two sisters, Marjorie Smith and Lois Alubuger; one brother, Donald Reck; and a grandson.
Surviving are her husband, Raymond “Gene” Garrett; one daughter, Susan Dow-Viglietta of Loves Park, Ill.; three sons, Christopher Dow of Waterloo, Iowa, Patrick Dow and Peter Dow of Muskogee, Okla.; 11 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Services are 11 o’clock Friday at the Success Baptist Church with the Rev. Dwayne Weber and the Rev. Ted Moore officiating. Burial is in the C.T. Smith Cemetery under the direction of Evans Funeral Home.
Visitation is 6 to 8 o’clock tonight (Thursday) at the Evans chapel.
