Janie Elizabeth Reed, 87, daughter of Berry Washington and Jennie Mae Walker Barkley, was born May 12, 1920, at Faulkner. She died May 5, 2008, at National HealthCare at Kennett.

A resident of Kennett, she was a cook at the Deering Schools and a member of the First Baptist Church of Kennett.

She married D.C. Reed Dec. 10, 1937, at Faulkner. He died Nov. 6, 1988.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by one son, Johnny Reed; two sisters, Marie Leat and Frances Hopper; and three brothers, George, Bill and B.W. Barkley.

Surviving are one son, Kenneth Reed of Kennett; two daughters, Emogene Wellington and Janie Click of Kennett; two brothers, W.C. and Cecil Barkley; six sisters, Gennivee Thornton of Hayti, Mo., Mary Tyger of Houston, Lou Ward of Kennett, Sally Bunton of Holcomb, Brenda McDonald of Malden, Minnie Croy of West Virginia and Dorothy Ennis of Louisiana; 11 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.

Services were May 8 at the Bradshaw Funeral Home Chapel with Ed Jansson officiating. Burial was in the Memorial Gardens Cemetery at Kennett.
