Avin Harold Jones, 88, son of Thomas C. and Ola Teague Jones, was born Nov. 12, 1919, at Turley. He died May 25, 2998, at Houston.

Mr. Jones spent most of his life as a Missouri native, in Texas and St. Charles counties. He graduated from Plato High School in 1940 before joining the U.S. Army Medical Corps Nov. 12, 1940. He reached the rank of staff sergeant Sept. 1, 1942, with the 7th Medical Battalion. He landed at Normandy June 10, 1944, and finished at Elbe River May 4, 1945. He received four Bronze Stars for his service in Rhineland, Central Europe, Normandy and Northern France before his honorable discharge Oct. 12, 1945.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Antoinette “Toni” Ruiz Jones; three brothers, Demsy Jones, Norman Jones and Laurie Jones; and one sister, Veda Jones Rowe.

Surviving are nieces and nephews.

Graveside services were May 28 at Pine Lawn Cemetery with Jerry Dodson and Jeff Smith officiating under the direction of Evans Funeral Home. Full military honors were provided by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6337.
