Luverna Vesta Crawley Zook, 88, daughter of Vess Crawley and Marie Garnesky Crawley, was born Sept. 4, 1919, at Chicago, Ill. She died May 25, 2008, at Christian Healthcare West in Springfield.
She attended school in Newton, Kan. At age 14, she was allowed to dance but not date. She met Norman Zook at a dance and three years later, they were married April 24, 1937, on the Kansas State University campus at Lawrence, Kan.
They shared 66 years of marriage, 55 in the Houston community. They had three sons and a daughter.
Mrs. Zook worked at Brown Shoe Factory, The Lee Co. and later at Forbes Rexall.
She attended church at Bucyrus, became a member at Roby Baptist Church, Success Baptist and Sycamore Baptist Church in Springfield.
She was a long-time pianist and organist at Roby and Success Baptist churches. She taught piano lessons from her home for many years and used her talent at weddings, funerals and numerous nursing homes over the years.
She was a member of several community clubs, taught Sunday School and was active in the churches where she was a member.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; one brother, Bud Crawley; one sister, Alberta Crawley Finley; an infant daughter, Leota Marie; and a grandson.
Surviving are her sons, Larry Zook of Springfield, Byron Zook of Morgantown, Ky., and Sheldon Zook of Elkland; seven grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
Services were May 28 at the Evans Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Sheldon Zook, the Rev. Ted Moore and the Rev. Weldon Foreman officiating. Burial was in the Pine Lawn Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
