A pull is made Saturday during an event at the Raymondville Fairgrounds off Highway B.

Raymondville Volunteer Fire Department held its first fund-raiser of the year Saturday as trucks and their drivers competed for prizes.

The Missouri Hotrod Truck and Tractor Pulling Association was there with a variety of pulling vehicles and a fully remodeled sled that each entry attempted to pull out the gate.

Organizers had to scramble to get the track dried after rain fell on the area. An organizer said with assistance from volunteers and equipment, the task was completed with about a 50-minute delay.

Once started, the event continued for about four hours. Attendance was down, but organizers said they hoped everyone had a great time.

“This was the first time we have held an event on Memorial weekend, but after a scheduling error we decided with the high fuel cost, this may have been a good way to kick off the summer. Tyrone and Houston Fire Departments assisted by taking care of parking and both done an excellent job, ” said Guy Ceplina, an organizer.
