Missouri Department of Transportation crews began paving a turning lane this week at Highway 17 and South Sam Houston Blvd. to accommodate a new street the City of Houston plans to construct.
Weather permitting, work will be complete by Friday, according to MoDOT Maintenance Superintendent Joe Housewright. The turning lane will accommodate a street from Highway 17 south to the traffic signal in front of the Wal-Mart Supercenter. The street will run behind the businesses that line South Sam Houston Boulevard.
Tentative work hours are scheduled from 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Traffic will be minimally impacted as crews will primarily be working on the shoulder of the existing road. Housewright said there might be brief periods when flag persons will direct traffic to allow for performing portions of the work.
