Miss Texas County Katy Reed with an award she won at the Miss Missouri Pageant, which is under way this week.

Miss Texas County Katy Reed received a scholarship at the Miss Missouri Pageant in recognition of her work with the Children’s Miracle Network.

The Miss Missouri organization has partnered with the Children’s Miracle Network and contestants raise money for CMN.

Reed is in Mexico, Mo., this week competing for the state title.

Earlier: Two young women from Texas County will join a group of other competitors in Mexico, Mo., to compete for the crown of Miss Missouri and Miss Missouri’s Outstanding Teen.

Katy Reed and Shaina King have prepared all week in Mexico for the preliminary and final competitions, which started Wednesday and will go through Saturday.

Reed is a junior at Missouri State University and is a Houston native. She will show off her talents and on-stage dynamics this weekend for a chance to represent Missouri in the Miss America Pageant later in the year.

King is a senior at Summersville High School and will compete to be Miss Missouri’s Most Outstanding Teen.

Finals for the teen hours will be Friday night followed by the swimsuit competition for the Miss Missouri Pageant. The Miss Missouri pageant winner will be announced on Saturday evening during the final competition. The contests begin at 7 each night at the Missouri Military Academy’s Gymtorium in Mexico.

Both young women have a chance to win scholarships from the Miss America Organization, which is the largest competitive scholarship program for young women.
