A Second Street shed in Houston was destroyed early Wednesday evening and a nearby house damaged in a fire that sent black smoke into the air.
Firemen from Houston and Raymondville responded to the Joel Carpenter residence for the blaze, which was apparently caused by sparks from a grill, authorities said.
In a matter of minutes the shed was destroyed shortly after 5 p.m., but firemen were able to save the home, which sits north of the Second and Walnut Street intersection.
