For 83 years, The Lester Family has been a popular and respected fixture in southern gospel music.
When “Pop” Lester and his wife, affectionately nicknamed “Bobo” (Harvey and Opal) began singing in 1925, they had no idea that their unique style of music would endure and grow for more than four generations and win acclaim from the most famous gospel groups across the land…the Blackwood Brothers, the Statesmen, J. D. Sumner, Jake Hess, Gold City, Anthony Burger, Mark Lowry and others.
The Lesters will appear Sunday evening, Aug. 10, at First Baptist Church, Dr. Howell Burkhead, pastor, said.
Most recently, Bill Gaither, recognized as the “standard” for present-day Gospel music, has embraced the “The Lesters” as a “sterling example of both talent and sincerity.” “The Lesters” have been featured on Gaither Family Reunions and appeared with the Gaithers at large concerts.
Based throughout the years in St. Louis, “The Lesters” are uniquely “Missouri’s own.” Never distant or strictly professional in their approach, they have made friends with multitudes of people throughout the Ozarks, Burkhead said.
The concert will begin at 6 p.m. in the church’s sanctuary. While a free-will love offering for “The Lesters” will be taken, no tickets will be needed.
At this concert, this group’s 88th album will be available. Also, 4 year-old Emma Grace will debut.
