Authorities say they have received some reports of political signs being removed or destroyed. Texas County’s prosecutor says that is against the law.

Missouri statute says it is illegal to “…steal, willfully deface, mutilate or destroy any campaign yard sign on private property.” A conviction is punishable by a fine of up to $2,500, up to a year in jail or a combination of both.

“Hopefully everyone can respect the democratic process and the candidate’s right to put out their signs,” said Prosecutor Mike Anderson.
