Attorney General Jay Nixon, a Democrat, addresses those gathered Saturday at Texas County Democrat Headquarters in downtown Houston.

Attorney General Jay Nixon said Saturday afternoon during a stop in Houston that education and addressing the healthcare crisis would be among his top priorities if elected governor in November.

Nixon, a Democrat, appeared in downtown Houston at the Texas County Democrat Headquarters before about 75 supporters. Nixon is set to make other appearances today in Eminence and Doniphan before traveling to Lebanon. He started the day in Springfield.

The four-term attorney general urged those attending to work hard for Democrats with only 107 days left before the Nov. 4 election. Nixon will face off against the winner in the August GOP primary – either State Treasurer Sarah Steelman or Congressman Kenny Hulshof.
