Sales tax receipts collected by Texas County merchants inched higher in the latest monthly distribution.

The tally from a half-cent sales tax was $83,246, which is an increase of $2,604 from the same period a year ago. For the year, collections are down: $475,634, which is a decrease of $11,296 for the year.

The county also receives tax monies from two, half-cent sales tax for debt repayment on the county justice center and general operations. Each totaled about $83,200, which is up about $2,900 each from a year ago.

For the first six months of the year, each has generated about $475,000, which is down about $10,225 each compared to the same period a year ago.

The reports are considered a good barometer for economic activity.
