Howard Elijah Haney, 88, third child of William Huston Haney and Mary Ellen Stricklin Haney, was born April 18, 1920. He died Aug. 10, 2008, at Texas County Memorial Hospital.
Mr. Haney served in the 421st Army Air Force Base Unit Muroc Army Airfield, Calif., for more than three years. Following his Army service, he served in the Air Force Reserve until Sept. 14, 1952.
After his time in the service, he worked the family farm.
He married Irma Williams Booker Oct. 6, 1973.
Mr. Haney’s hobbies were fishing, hunting and working his large garden. He attended the Houston Bible Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Homer Haney; and sister, Opal Johanson.
Surviving are his wife of Houston; sister, Nellie Mae Fulks of Houston; two stepsons, Steve Booker of Statesboro, Ga., and Stan Booker of Marietta, Ga.; two step-grandchildren and two step-great-grandchildren.
Services are 11 o’clock today (Thursday) at the Evans Funeral Home Chapel with David Barbbee officiating. Burial is in the Oak Hill Cemetery.
Visitation begins at 10 o’clock, an hour before the services.
Memorials may be made to the Oak Hill Cemetery or Hospice of Care.
