Junior Livestock Sale, Demolition Derby Highlight Last Night of Fair

The annual Texas County Fair-Old Settlers Reunion began Wednesday night with four nights of activities at the Houston Area Chamber of Commerce Fairgrounds on North U.S. 63.

The event is sponsored by the Houston chamber, involves dozens of volunteers and provides much of the operating money for the organization for the coming year.

The Texas County Fair Board sponsors the livestock portion of the fair with shows throughout the week.

Headline events are planned for each evening of the fair.

Here is the rest of this week’s schedule:

THURSDAY: 8 p.m. Bull Bash presented by Thunder Wolf Equestrian Center. The Texas County Health Fair runs from 5 to 8 p.m. with fair-goers receiving the opportunity to have several tests performed. It is sponsored by Russell Cellular.

FRIDAY: 7 p.m. Texas County Demolition Derby qualifying heats presented by Oldies 100 gets under way.

SATURDAY: 7 p.m. Texas County Demolition Derby finals – featuring outlaw derby and powder puff. There is a $4,200 purse.

Here is the livestock show schedule:

Goats and sheep judging is 5 p.m. Thursday. Swine followed by beef will enter the ring at 9 a.m. Friday. Judging of rabbits begins at 10 a.m. The dairy show starts at 9 a.m. Saturday. The annual junior livestock sale is at 4 p.m. Saturday.

Additionally, musical entertainment is planned nightly and those attending can see various horticultural displays. Vendors and a carnival also will be on the grounds.
