Billie Ruth Smith Edmonds, 91, daughter of Samuel and Ellen Hall Smith, was born Oct. 21, 1916, at Diaz, Ark. She died Sept. 7, 2008, at Bettendorf Health Care Center at Bettendorf, Iowa.
She graduated from high school in Carl Junction and worked for many years at the post office and Jayhawk Chemical plant during World War II.
She married Howard L. Edmonds of Galena, Kan., June 14, 1941. Mr. Edmonds was a career Army officer and embassy attache. They lived in many foreign countries and around the U.S. They both retired from the Army Material Command in Washington, D.C.
Mrs. Edmonds loved traveling and living all over the world and meeting people of all cultures. She enjoyed entertaining, playing bridge, reading and gardening.
She was a 55-year member of the Eastern Star and belonged to P.E.O. chapters ES in Emporia, Kan., and FJ in Davenport, Iowa.
She was preceded in death by her husband in 1995; two brothers, Manley and Manford Smith; and sister, Ethel Smith Grow.
Surviving are her daughter, Mary Katherine Moore of Davenport, Iowa; and two grandchildren.
Graveside services were Sept. 10 at the Ozark Cemetery with the Rev. David Purichia officiating under the direction of Elliott-Gentry-Carder Funeral Home of Cabool.
