Victor “Buck” Edward Machin, 89, son of Carl and Lydia Short Machin, was born Oct. 21, 1918, at Indianola, Iowa. He died Sept. 9, 2008, at Texas County Memorial Hospital in Houston.
He was raised on a farm near Newton, Iowa.
He married Thelma Irene Arndt Dec. 8, 1950.
Mr. Machin farmed and worked in a factory in Newton, Iowa. In 1962, he, his wife and daughter moved to a farm in western Texas County in the Bendavis community, where he milked and raised beef cattle for 15 years on his mini-farm in town.
He loved to garden and also worked for the state, at saw mills and at Fort Leonard Wood. He enjoyed his Civil Service jobs.
In 1977, he and his wife moved to Houston, and he retired from Fort Leonard Wood in the mid-’80s.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Ella Callison; an infant brother and two infant sisters.
Surviving are his wife of the home; daughter, Vickie Sillyman of Houston; stepdaughter, Beverly Gardiner of Altoona, Iowa; stepson, Robert Sabin of Sedalia; brother, Walter Machin of Newton, Iowa; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Memorial services are 2 o’clock Saturday at the First Christian Church in Houston with the Rev. Wesley Wallace officiating.
Visitation is from 1 o’clock until time for services at the church.
Arrangements are under the direction of Evans Funeral Home.
