Houston quarterback David Weybright threw for 290 yards and had a pair of rushing touchdowns as the Tigers rallied past Ava 27-25 Friday night.
Senior wideout Ty Scheets had season highs of 10 catches and 170 yards for the Tigers, who are 3-0 for the first time since 2004. They put their unbeaten mark on the line in Friday’s home opener against Mountain Grove.
Weybright accounted for all four of Houston’s scores. He had a pair of rushing touchdowns – his team-leading sixth and seventh of the season – and hooked up with Scheets and Martin Crawford for scores through the air. He was 18-for-31 passing and gained 51 yards on 15 carries.
Junior Brad Pounds had 108 combined yards – 68 rushing yards on 11 carries and a pair of catches totaling 40 yards.
Scheets led Houston’s defense, which shut out its first two opponents, with nine tackles. Dalton Wilson had an interception.
