A strong start helped the Houston eighth grade volleyball team win the Cabool Tournament Saturday.

After beating Mountain Grove 25-19, 25-11, the Lady Tigers split their final two matches of the tournament. They won the first set and lost the second against both Cabool (25-23, 18-25) and Ava (25-17, 21-25).

“We started the day ready to play, then our serving fell apart,” Houston coach Jodie Tottingham said.

Houston rebounded nicely from a tough loss two days earlier to Mountain View-Liberty. The Lady Tigers lost 25-21, 27-25.

Sadie Ashworth led Houston with 14 points.

“We had a chance to win this match, but we let it slip away,” Tottingham said. “I was really proud of the girls’ efforts.”
