The public is invited to learn more about alpacas from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. Saturday at the Rootin-Tootin Alpacas Fall Festival.
Jim and Connie Root operate the alpaca farm one mile east of Houston on Highway B.
The day will include weaving and spinning demonstrations, local vendors, food and refreshments from the Houston Optimist Club and the opportunity to feed or pet an alpaca. Jim Root said he will conduct sheering demonstrations at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.
Visitors may also visit Connie Root’s farm store, where she sells many unique, hand woven items, including alpaca shawls, sweaters, ponchos, infant items, baby blankets and her award-winning baby alpaca thongs.
The Roots purchased their first animal in 2004. They now own 19 alpacas.
