Irene Newby Kirkman Lower, 90, died Wednesday, Nov. 12, 2008, at Kabul Nursing Home.

She was born Oct. 30, 1918, in Ellington, daughter of George and Lona Medlock Newby. She and Lloyd Kirman were married Jan. 4, 1937. She later married Daniel G. Lower March 11, 1956.

She was baptized May 28, 1989, into the Riverside Baptist Church in Fort Myers, Fla. She enjoyed growing flowers and vegetables in her garden. She owned several small dogs and most always had a bird or two.

She loved to travel in the states and abroad. After retiring, she and her husband, Dan, lived in Florida during the winter and the northwest coast in warm months. She took care of several foster children at one time.

She was preceded in death by her parents and both husbands; a brother, Laurel; and a niece.

Survivors include two sons, Robert Kirkman of Independence and Roger Kirkman of Summersville; a stepdaughter, Janie Santiono of Fla.; a grandson and granddaughter; two great-grandsons and a granddaughter; three sisters, Mary Millington and Juanita Norin of Summersville and Evelyn Tyler of Hartshorn; seven nephews; five nieces; and a host of family and friends.

Services were Saturday, Nov. 15, at Bradford Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Joe Heiney officiating. Burial was in Valley Center Cemetery in Hartshorn.
