Jimmy C. “Jim” Baker, 82, died Saturday, Nov. 15, 2008, in Houston, Texas.
He was born Oct. 3, 1926, in Houston, Texas, son of Marshall and Emma Guntharpe Baker.
He was in the Merchant Marines for many years as a young man, traveling completely around the globe at one time. He worked for Occidental Petroleum Corporation in Houston, Texas, for many years retiring and moving to Houston, Mo. He enjoyed playing dominos and visiting with friends and neighbors at local restaurants.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a wife, Ida; two brothers, John Baker and Arthur “Red” Baker; and four sisters, Lucille Baker, Helen Greeney, Virginia Asselin and Jessie Courtney.
Survivors include a step great-granddaughter, Christine Schnitzer; a great great-granddaughter, Hannah; and many nieces and nephews.
Services are 11 a.m. today (Thursday), Nov. 20, at the Evans Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Ed Hamilton officiating. Burial with full military honors is in Pine Lawn Cemetery.
