Lady Grizzlies qualify for NJCAA national tournament

Houston native Vicki Castleman is headed to nationals with the Missouri State University-West Plains volleyball team.

The Lady Grizzlies punched their ticket to the National Junior College Athletic Association National Volleyball Championship Tournament this past weekend by winning Region 16 for the 10th consecutive season.

The Lady Grizzlies (36-13) will compete Nov. 20-22 at the national tournament in Council Bluffs, Iowa.

In Friday’s semifinal match, the Lady Grizzlies downed State Fair Community College of Sedalia 25-23, 25-9, 25-22. They then out-gunned rival Jefferson College of Hillsboro 25-17, 25-27, 25-19 in Saturday’s championship match.

“This was a great weekend. It was a great feat,” said Lady Grizzlies coach Trish Kissiar-Knight. “We played so well. We were basically known as a two-hitter team this season, but we had other players who stepped up for us and made their presence known this weekend.”
