The Missouri Department of Transportation is urging caution due to slick roadway surfaces resulting from frozen precipitation and freezing rainfall in some areas. Motorists should be watchful when traveling on any paved surface but particularly across bridges and overpasses, where air travels underneath, making the surface even colder.
According to MoDOT Maintenance Engineer Henry Haggard, crews continuously treat roads to clear them of ice. He advises when meeting or following a MoDOT truck, extra room should be allowed. This will increase safety for motorists and the workers who are clearing the roadway as well as speed the process.
