Houston junior Kyle Poynter goes to the basket in the first half of Monday's victory against Norwood.

Top-seeded Eminence out-scored the Houston Tigers 20-4 in the second quarter and cruised to a 68-38 quarterfinal victory Saturday afternoon at the Cabool Holiday Tournament.

Houston, which downed host Cabool in Friday’s opening round, only trailed 20-17 after a back-and-forth first period. But Eminence’s pressure defense and fastbreak offense took control from there.

Kyle Poynter led the Tigers (3-4) with 12 points. Ty Scheets had 10 points and David Weybright added nine.

Houston will face the Norwood-Couch loser at 2:30 p.m. Monday in the fifth-place bracket.
